Having a stroke can have a HUGE impact on an individual, their speech can be affected, their movement, memory, even their personality. Frustration at not being able to eat alone, dress alone and as any of you know that has experience of this, there are a huge range of things inbetween that can become difficult.
Just for a moment I’d like to take you away from the stroke sufferer. What about the family and loved ones of that person? They also have to now live with a person that they love dearly but they have changed, sometimes dramatically and literally overnight. And it’s them that have to cope with the frustration and sometimes anger of the stroke survivor, as well as their own feelings!
At Origins we know this, we have seen over the years how our sessions with their stroke affected loved ones give them hope, by providing practical ways that they can help not just their loved one but also themselves. It can help to bring a little bit of peace to what can be a world turned upside down.
This is where we focus our recovery programmes, NOT just in the physical and mental aspects of the stroke survivor but also their close family and carers.
